And you will marvel at how a rod so sensitive and lightweight can cast your lures with laser like accuracy. But it’s the feel you get as a trout takes your lure that is the most defining. As the Softube Top technology gives you an almost imperceptible, but very real amount of extra time to set the hook before the pressure alerts even the most wary trout. #### Blank The ultra lightweight blanks of the Cardiff AX are made from a blend of Spiral X and Hi-Power X carbon. These advanced carbon technologies combine to reduce rotational twist. So when the rod is flexed during casting, or when fish-playing, it results in greater accuracy and a truer parabolic fighting curve. The addition of Shimano’s Softube Top, increases sensitivity without adding additional weight. Because of that the rod has better balance and an enhanced overall feel of lightness. As expected of such a high quality rod, the fittings are of the highest order, with lightweight Fuji Titanium and Stainless Steel SiC K-type guides, an exclusive Shimano Ci4+ reel seat complementing the want like slimness of the blanks and the finest grade cork handles. ##### SOFTUBE TOP Shimano SOFTUBE TOP provides the sensitivity of an ultra fine solid carbon tip with the lightness of a hollow/tubular construction. SOFTUBE TOP construction can be found on rods where sensitivity and finesse are both important requirements. The smooth, seamless action of SOFTUBE TOP offers the angler an unrivalled experience for bite detection and fish-playing performance. ##### **Spiral X** Through its exclusive lightweight structure, Shimano’s patented Spiral X construction enhances catching power for anglers. Spiral X construction consists of three layers. A middle layer of vertical fibers as well as inner and outer layers, both comprised of carbon tape that tightly winds the blank diagonally in opposite directions. By using this carbon tape in place of a conventional horizontal fiber sheet, Spiral X achieves enhanced compression rigidity and increased torsional rigidity without adding extra weight. This in turn facilitates instant power transmission for precise casting and fish fighting. ##### **Hi-Power X** Hi-Power X construction uses diagonally-wrapped carbon tape to form an array of “X” shapes on the rod blank’s outermost layer. The width of the tape, its winding angle and the part of the rod being wrapped are fine-tuned according to the target fish species. This manufacturing process allows Shimano to adjust these wraps during construction for precise actions, enhanced overall strength and added twist resistance.
